When we invest in an actively managed fund, we are paying the fund company to deliver superior returns.  If the fund delivers the same returns as what we can get ourselves, there is no reason to invest in the fund for we can do it ourselves inexpensively.  At minimum, we can get returns of an index by either investing in a low cost index fund, or directly in the component securities of the index.  Therefore, an index should be a benchmark against which we evaluate a fund’s performance.  Funds Selector is the tool to help you identify funds that are expected to beat an index.  It tells you three important things about a fund:
